What data AfterGas collects

By default, AfterGas collects no data whatsoever. All information you enter — miles driven, earnings, gas prices, zones, platform, and trip history — is stored exclusively on your device using local storage. It never leaves your phone.

Optional anonymous data sharing

During onboarding you may choose to share anonymous, bucketed data to help build community insights. This is entirely optional and off by default. If you opt in, the following is shared:

You can turn anonymous data sharing on or off at any time in the Settings tab inside the app.

Individual records are never displayed publicly. A city becomes visible after 5 drivers in it have submitted bucketed shares. Per-platform and per-time breakdowns require 25 submissions before they're surfaced — ensuring no individual trip can be inferred from the aggregated results.

Data storage and security

All trip data is stored on your device using AsyncStorage. AfterGas uses HTTPS exclusively for any network communication and does not permit unencrypted HTTP connections. No user account, password, or login is required — or exists.

Third-party services

AfterGas uses one external data source: the US Department of Energy's fueleconomy.gov API, solely to look up vehicle MPG data when you set your vehicle in Settings. No personal information is sent to this service — only the year, make, and model you select.

Data export and deletion

You own your data entirely. You can export all of your trip data as a CSV at any time from the Shifts or Insights tab. To delete your data, uninstall the app — all locally stored data is removed with it.

Children's privacy

AfterGas is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy in a way that changes what data is collected, we will update the date above and notify users via an in-app notice on next launch.
