What data AfterGas collects

By default, AfterGas collects no data whatsoever. All information you enter — odometer readings, earnings, gas prices, zones, and trip history — is stored exclusively on your device. It never leaves your phone.

Optional anonymous data sharing

During onboarding, you may choose to share anonymous, aggregated trip data to help build community insights. This is entirely optional and off by default. If you opt in, the following is shared:

• City name only (never your address, route, or GPS coordinates)
• Time-of-day bucket (morning, afternoon, evening, late night)
• Weather condition you logged
• Whether the dash was profitable — not the dollar amount
• Vehicle efficiency class (e.g. "efficient sedan") — not your make or model
• A randomly generated, non-reversible device identifier

The following is never collected under any circumstances:

• Your name, email address, or any account information
• Exact earnings, tips, or dollar amounts
• Your precise location, GPS data, or route
• Your vehicle make, model, year, or license plate
• Exact odometer readings or mileage figures
• Any information that could identify you personally

You can toggle anonymous data sharing on or off at any time in the Vehicle tab under Privacy Settings.

Data storage and security

All trip data is stored on your device using local AsyncStorage. AfterGas uses HTTPS exclusively for any network communication and does not permit unencrypted HTTP connections.

Third-party services

AfterGas uses one external data source: the US Department of Energy's fueleconomy.gov API, solely to look up vehicle MPG data. No personal information is sent to this service.

Children's privacy

AfterGas is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy in a way that changes what data is collected, we will update the date above and notify users via an in-app notice.
